Mike Johnson's Guitar Songs Acoustic Series:
Mike Johnson's Guitar Songs Volume One was born out of necessity. When he returned from Nashville in 1981 with his very first release on 45rpm, "King of the Fish*Please Don't Squeeze the Charmin" he really wasn't prepared for its eager acceptance. That summer he had to order a second batch. In September 1981 he became a long distance driver and his schedules quickly dased hopes of an immediate return to the studio. 
Though he had cut five songs during that first session, he really didn't want to release another single. After much stalling, sometime in 1983 he set up his recording equipment, tuned up his Kingston Guitar, selected his songs, practiced them for a week, and thus was created Mike Johnson's Guitar Songs Vol.1. To enhance the impromptu cassette release he also put together a lyric book. This satisfied his new fan base and gave him the time he needed to get back into the studio. At Champ Recording Studio, owned by Jim Stanton the founder of the legendary Rich-R-Tone Record label, he recorded more of his songs in four different recording sessions from 1984 until Stanton's untimely death in the summer of 1989.
Lots of road trips, live appearances, and new songs, kept him from any further formal studio work. In the interium he had upgraded his personal studio equipment and had amassed quite a sizable demo song catalog on over 100 tapes. He also noticed a nation-wide interest and revival in acoustic music and decided that there was absolutely no reason his songs should continue collecting dust on the shelf. In 2001 he mastered his original 1983 Guitar Songs Vol.1 cassette to CD and released it as a nostalgic look back, and in the summer of 2002 he released his Guitar Songs Volume 2 CD, thereby officially kicking off his Acoustic Series and ultimately providing a platform to demonstrate his songwriting versatility. This has been amply supported by the enthusiastic acceptance of Guitar Songs Vol.4 "You Never Got To Sing My Songs - A Tribute To Roger Miller" and Guitar Songs Vol.5 "Bad Whiskey, Bad Sex, and Bad Men."
